Plumbing & Mechanical Systems Board (PMSB)

This page reflects the application process for individuals and businesses who need to apply to take an exam or obtain a license to practice the following professions in Iowa. The license types and trades available are:

  • Apprentice, Journeyperson, or Master
  • Contractors in Plumbing, HVAC/R, Hydronics, or Mechanical Systems
  • Plumbing
  • HVAC/Refrigeration
  • Hydronics
  • Mechanical Systems
  • Medical Gas System Installer Certification
  • Disconnect/Reconnect Plumbing Technician Specialty License
  • Hearth Systems Specialty License
  • Private School or College Routine Maintenance Specialty License
  • Service Technician HVAC Specialty License

Process for Renewing Individual Licenses Online (Master, Journeyperson, Apprentice, & Specialty.)

 

Renew an Existing Individual License:

Once you have reviewed the items above you may proceed to the PORTAL TO CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT  or  LOG IN WITH YOUR EXISTING A&A ACCOUNT (@IOWAID).

 

Renew BOTH a Contractor License and an Individual License:

  • How to create an A&A account PDF (Note - PMSB usernames and passwords created before May 1, 2017, are not linked with A&A accounts. You must create a new username and password with an @iowaid as detailed in the instructions)
STOP - To link a New Account to an existing business, contact the Help Desk at 855-824-4357 OR  EMAIL. 

NOTE: You need to complete the renewal process for both your contractor license and your individual license on the same day in order to receive the discount.

Once you have reviewed the items above you may proceed to the PORTAL TO CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT  or  LOG IN WITH YOUR EXISTING A&A ACCOUNT (@IOWAID).

 


Process for Renewing a Contractor License Online (Includes Contractor Registration with the Division of Labor.)

Renew an Existing Contractor License ONLY:

  • How to create an A&A account PDF (Note - PMSB usernames and passwords created before May 1, 2017, are not linked with A&A accounts. You must create a new username and password with an @iowaid as detailed in the instructions)
STOP - To link a New Account to an existing business, contact the Help Desk at 855-824-4357 OR  EMAIL.

Process for a Applying for New Individual Licenses Online (Master, Journeyperson, Apprentice, and Specialty.)


Apply for a New License or Exam (no prior applications submitted.)

Once you have reviewed the items above you may proceed to the PORTAL TO CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT  or  LOG IN WITH YOUR EXISTING A&A ACCOUNT (@IOWAID).


Make Additions or Changes to an Existing License or Exam:

Apply for a New License Trade / Type ;  Apply for a New Exam ;  Edit / Update an Existing License ; Apply for a Post Exam

  • How to create an A&A account PDF (Note - PMSB usernames and passwords created before May 1, 2017, are not linked with A&A accounts. You must create a new username and password with an @iowaid as detailed in the instructions)
  • How to add/edit a license trade/type and complete a post exam PDF
  • How to apply for an additional exam PDF

Once you have reviewed the items above you may proceed to the PORTAL TO CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT  or  LOG IN WITH YOUR EXISTING A&A ACCOUNT (@IOWAID).
