Information for Schools
The Iowa Department of Public Health strives to protect the health of Iowans during the flu season. In flu season, we constantly assess guidelines and information released by federal health officials. We also conduct surveillance for influenza in Iowa. For more information about influenza, the flu vaccine or Iowa influenza activity see the items below.
Check this site often for the most recent influenza information.
School reporting and surveillance systems:
- Schools are asked to report absenteeism when 10% or more of the total enrollment is absent on any given day due to illness.
- Sentinel schools that participate in the IISN, report absence due to illness each week via an online tool. Schools that would like to become a sentinel school or you are a current sentinel school and are unable to report using the survey tool, please contact the Center for Acute Disease Epidemiology at (800) 362-2736.
