Water Treatment System Registration
The Water Treatment System Registration Program is responsible for:
- Confirming that water treatment systems sold in Iowa with claims to reduce health-related contaminants have appropriate third-party verification of the claims.
- Reviewing third-party testing agencies to ensure proper qualifications and capabilities.
- Maintaining a registry of water treatment systems that comply with Iowa law.
- Technical assistance to consumers and preliminary investigation of complaints regarding sale of unregistered water treatment systems or that are making unsubstantiated claims.

Water Treatment System Registration Update:
On April 21st 2022, the Governor of Iowa, Kim Reynolds, signed an Act (Senate File 2232) relating to the sale, lease or rental of water treatment systems in the state of Iowa. You can see this bill in its entirety here. Beginning on January 1st 2023, state registration will no longer be required to sell a water treatment system in the state. Any water treatment systems currently being sold in Iowa still require registration between now and December 31, 2022. Any manufacturers wanting to sell new water treatment systems in Iowa between now and December 31, 2022, will need to submit a new registration application for each device to be sold in Iowa.
