Licensure Fees

An application will not be processed without the payment of the correct fee.  All fees are non-refundable. Credit cards can only be accepted if you are applying online.  No cash payments are accepted.  If you are submitting a check or money order, make it payable to: Iowa Plumbing and Mechanical Systems Board or PMSB.

Fee Information - Fees apply per discipline or trade. To determine the correct fee, go to the column "Date Initial Application for License is Submitted, or, For Renewal, Expiration Date of License,"  and determine the correct date range and fee based on the license you are applying for or seeking to renew.

If you are submitting a paper application, you must also include the paper application fee of $25.  The paper application fee is waived for applications for exam approval, post-examination licensure, contractor licensure, or late renewal/reinstatement beyond 60 days, because these applications CANNOT be completed online.  Through April 2017, the paper application fee for late renewal is also being waived as we are unable to accept online renewals at this time.

Multiple License Discount: If you are purchasing or renewing multiple ACTIVE master, journeyperson, or contractor licenses for the same individual in the same transaction, you are eligible for a 30 percent discount off the licensing fees.  This discount does not apply to the $25 paper application fee.

Example 1.  If you submit a post-exam Journeyperson plumbing license and Journeyperson mechanical license application in March 2017, the total fee due would be calculated as follows.   [Prorated fee of $30.06 x 2 for both licenses = $60.12. To calculate the discount, multiple this fee by thirty percent and subtract that amount from the combined license fee: .30 x 60.12 = 18.04 discount.  $60.12 - 18.04 = $42.08 due.  Because this is a post-exam application fee, no paper application fee is required.]

Example 2.  I am applying for a separate master license application and contractor license application submitted on paper in March 2017.  The master license fee is $40.08 and the contractor license fee is $41.75 = $81.83.  Because I am submitting both applications at the same time, I am entitled to a 30% discount off the license fee.  $81.83 x .30 = $24.55.  The license fee due is $81.83 - 24.55 = $57.28.

Renewal Fees - Licenses that Expire June 30, 2017

For licenses that are due to expire June 30, 2017, you will be sent a renewal notice approximately 60 days prior to the expiration date of the license.  At that time, you may go online or submit a paper renewal application.  The renewal fee for a three-year license that will be valid from July 1, 2017, through June 30, 2020, must be paid at that time.  Renewal fees for a full three-year license are as follows:

$50    Apprentice or Inactive License Renewal Fee

$50    Service Tech HVAC, Disconnect/Reconnect Plumbing Technician, Hearth Systems Specialty, or Private School/College Routine Maintenance

$75    Med Gas Piping Certification Renewal Fee

$180  Journeyperson License Renewal Fee

$230 Inactive Master/Active Journeyperson License Renewal Fee

$240 Master License Renewal Fee

Fees apply PER license.  If you are renewing multiple ACTIVE journey, master, or contractor licenses for the same individual at the same time, a 30% discount off the total renewal fee is calculated.  The discount does not apply to any applicable paper renewal fees or late fees.
