Board Staff

The Iowa Board of Sign Language Interpreters and Transliterators is staffed by a Board Executive and a Secretary in the Bureau of Professional Licensure, Iowa Department of Public Health.

Board Members

The Board is made up of seven members appointed by the governor and confirmed by the senate. The members of the board includes four licensed interpreters, three of whom are to be practicing with at least one of the four employed in an educational setting and three consumers of interpreter services who are deaf.

Board Members:

  • serve three-year terms (unless filling an unexpired term),
  • appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate,
  • serve no more than nine years (three full terms).
